Marriott Debuts in Nigeria

Marriott - the luxury brand in hotel management, will make its debut in  sub-Saharan Africa next month - October 2016, according its public relations manager with the grand opening of Renaissance Lagos Ikeja Hotel located at the Ikeja GRA, Lagos State.

As the first of the Marriott brand in sub-Africa, it will be an embodiment of luxury, high taste and class.

In a rare feat, it also boasts of eight conference rooms of different capacities ranging from 10 to 500 comfortable seats, apart from the 155 tastefully furnished rooms of varying classes on nine floors. It will have an all day dining restaurant, specialty steakhouse and outdoor terrace, spa, pool deck and events place among others.

With the addition of the luxury brand, the face of tourism in Nigeria is bound to leap to another level.

As a nation, we may not be where we ought to be as regards nation building, security, infrastructural development, employment / job creation, education etc but we must be thankful because we are no longer stuck in the past.

PANIC AT THE WHITE HOUSE AS A MAN JUMPED OVER THE FENCE



A man caused panic in the White House when he jumped over the fence and landed inside the premises, AFP reports.

The intruder, identified as Omar Gonzalez, reportedly made it into the building before he was stopped. Thankfully, President Barack Obama and his family were not in the residence as they had supposedly departed minutes earlier for Camp David, the presidential weekend retreat.

SOUTH AFRICA POSTPONES NEW VISA REGULATIONS



South African’s Home Affairs department has announced the postponement of the planned implementation of the requirement for children under the age of 18 to present an unabridged birth certificate when applying for visas.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, who disclosed this in a mediap parley, also added that the written permission required for children travelling with a parent has also been postponed till June next year.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO PROBE EGYPT AIR FOR DEHUMANISING NIGERIAN STUDENT AND TEARING HIS PASSPORT


CHAIRMAN House Committee on Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa  has vowed to get to the roots of how a  17- year- old Nigerian medical  student based in Ukraine, Master  Joshua Kunle Abdulazeez was  wrongfully deported and dehumanised by the Egyptian authorities last August.

Apparently disturbed by the young man’s narrative of how he was traumatized, starved for four days, his Nigerian passport torn to shreds in last Saturday’s Vanguard, Dabiri-Erewa vowed that "we will invite all the parties involved to the House to explain why a 17 year old boy should go through such a trauma for no fault of his."

CONCERN OVER BIKINI REMARKS BY THAI JUNTA CHIEF

Bangkok (AFP) - Britain on Thursday raised concerns after Thailand's junta leader suggested tourists in bikinis could be more vulnerable to attack, as DNA tests failed to yield a breakthrough in the hunt for the killers of two British holidaymakers.

The battered bodies of David Miller, 24 and Hannah Witheridge, 23, were found on the southern resort island of Koh Tao on Monday. Distraught relatives of Witheridge broke down in tears and hugged each other ahead of a police briefing in Bangkok on Thursday, as the investigation continued to draw a blank.

PILOTS AT AIR FRANCE STRIKE



Pilots at flag-carrier Air France have walked out at the start of a week-long strike.The carrier will be running less than half of its flights during the coming days, as pilots protest against a transfer of jobs by the airline to a low-cost carrier (Transavia). Air France is urging passengers around the world to change or postpone travel.
